Senior Programmer - Strouse Brothers of Evansville, IN 10/1975 - 1/1977

Developed Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and other packages for Retailing Service Bureau. These packages were later sold to NCR for $50,000 per package. Provided most of the coding and design work for new programs for the service bureau.

DP Manager - BR Foods of Jasper, IN 1/1977 - 4/1981

Managed entire IT department for 125-store fast-foot franchisee, including Jerry's, Long John Silvers, Wendy's and other assorted specialty restaurants. Converted entire accounting system from manual, paper system to electronic system. Custom developed Payroll, Financial and Sales Analysis packages. Later resold packages to 3rd party vendor for their own internal use after leaving position to start own company. Handled 4,5000 payables invoices and 1,400 active employees per month on 32K minicomputer. Did consulting for firm with other restaurant owners.

Did significant custom development work in a variety of industries, including, but not limited to : Grocery Store Accounting, Mail-Order software, Child Support, Voter Registration, Property Tax Software, General Business Accounting. During firms peak years, employed up to nine other staff members. Top year of sales exceeded $250,000. Ran business concurrently while teaching at Vincennes University / Jasper. Provided hardware repair, custom software, training, troubleshooting, networking and various other computer-related services.

Implemented Computer Science program at VUJC. Installed several computer labs, including furniture and all equipment. Developed specialized computing seminars for non-traditional students. Taught every course in the Computer Science Curriculum at least once. Also taught several business courses, including Small Business Management. Taught virtually every programming language offered at any university level. Pioneered joint development efforts with local businesses to provide OJT training for computer science majors.

Responsible for computerization and support of all County offices. Spearheaded new networking topology throughout entire County portion of City-County Building. Responsible for all hardware and software repair, installation, training and troubleshooting. Served as one-man office in role which now requires a minimum of three individuals to handle same workload. Worked with no budget at all from County Council for 1st year in position. Developed specialized applications and interfaces for various county offices. Began process of permitting various offices to share data between themselves. Began development of internet presence for County.

#2 person on 5-man IT staff. Responsible for all administrative and network functions, troubleshooting, training and other duties as assigned when IT manager is not available. Program installation, configuration, training and custom programming for all applications, including, but not limited to : Suncoast Solutions Patient System, Raiser's Edge Donor Package, DSI Statistical Analysis Package. Special training in Progress Database Package (V9 Database Administration, V89 GUI Application Development, and V9 4GL Essentials). Also provide hardware troubleshooting, user training and support at all levels of the organization.
